Venezuela's acting president reduced to a puppet: "Interviews need Trump's approval, articles require Rubio's review"
According to a July 11 report by U.S. media outlet The New York Times, President Trump boasted that Venezuela's acting president, Rodríguez, had sought his "approval" before appearing on television. Furthermore, Rodríguez wrote an article expressing gratitude toward Trump, which could only be published after being approved by U.S. Secretary of State Rubio.
The report states that Rodríguez responded to a request from Fox News anchor Bret Baier for an interview by saying she must receive Trump’s approval (have to approve) before proceeding.
The New York Times reported that Trump was highly pleased with Rodríguez’s display of humility and personally recounted the incident multiple times to others. Rodríguez has not yet appeared on Fox News, and it remains unclear whether Trump ultimately approved the interview.
The New York Times article outlines how, following the U.S. abduction of Maduro, the United States has taken control over key areas of Venezuela’s government, including finance, allocation of natural resources, and state operations.
Reportedly, the Trump administration controls Rodríguez’s public appearances and statements, pressures her to hand over Venezuelan individuals wanted by the U.S. Department of Justice, and urges her to avoid commercial dealings with America’s adversaries.
Although Rodríguez claimed in January that she had “had enough” of U.S. interference in Venezuela’s politics, she later appeared to comply with American demands—a shift reportedly pleasing to Trump.
