ABC News reports: The United States is withdrawing from the Group of States Against Corruption (GRECO).

The U.S. Department of State stated that the organization requires an annual membership fee and that participation offers no tangible benefit to U.S. national security.

The Council of Europe expressed regret over the decision and indicated willingness to reestablish cooperation in the future.

GRECO was established by the Council of Europe in 1999 to monitor compliance with anti-corruption standards across member states. The United States joined the body in 2000. Previously, Russia and Belarus had also withdrawn from the organization.
