Trump and Putin seem to hold an unshakable common belief that only they possess the personal authority and skills to resolve the Ukraine war, and eventually Europe and Ukraine will follow their instructions.
The greatest concern for Ukraine is that the leaders of the two countries will formulate a peace plan regarding their survival through a phone call and then possibly impose conditions on Ukraine, or otherwise withdraw important U.S. military and economic assistance.
The signing of the U.S.-Ukraine mineral agreement has settled old accounts, marking the beginning of handling Ukraine. Do not be misled by Zelenskyy's recent behavior of currying favor with Trump; in Trump's eyes, he remains an "annoying" person. Europe is no better off either. Ignoring them and negotiating peace directly with Russia is a form of contempt. This is a snub to Europe and a matter of life and death for Zelenskyy.
