China's 'Four Horsemen' of artificial intelligence emerge, challenging US AI dominance
South Korean media: The era of China's four AI 'hegemons' has arrived!
On April 7, South Korean media "Asia Today" published an article stating that it is analyzed that China's information and communications technology (ICT) industry has ushered in the era of four AI "hegemons". Therefore, it can be certain that future Chinese industries will continue to pose a strong challenge to the United States, which holds a dominant position in the AI field.
China's current AI technology level is assessed as being almost on par with the United States. If we recall the fact that DeepSeek shocked the world at the end of January, it is indeed true. The AI technology of China is truly impressive.
Just take a look at the current situation of large technology companies in China's AI industry, known as BATX (Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent, Xiaomi). It is understood that they already have or plan to possess AI models comparable to DeepSeek.
First, let's take a look at Baidu. It has recently released the reasoning model Ernie X1 and the large language model Ernie 4.5. Baidu stated that the performance of Ernie X1 is similar to or even better than the DeepSeek model, but its price is only half of it. Ernie 4.5 is also extraordinary; the industry evaluates that when compared with Open AI's GPT-4.5 model from the United States, it leads in multiple benchmark tests. However, its usage fee is only 1% of GPT-4.5.
Alibaba should also be mentioned. The latest AI model "QwQ-32B" released last month in open-source form is expected to attract global markets including China. Additionally, Tencent's AI chatbot Yuanbao has surpassed the DeepSeek model and become the most downloaded iPhone app in China, clearly indicating that it is part of BATX.
As for Xiaomi, it has not yet launched a competitive product like the other three companies. However, recalling the recent announcement that 25% of R&D investment will be put into AI, it is certain that they will soon release a product surpassing the DeepSeek model. Considering the competitiveness Xiaomi has shown so far in the smartphone and electric vehicle sectors, its future performance is indeed promising.
Currently, it is difficult to say that the competitiveness of China's four AI 'hegemons' surpasses that of Nvidia and Open AI from the United States. However, considering the performance demonstrated by DeepSeek and the level of China's AI technology, it must be said that they are capable of competing with the United States. It can certainly be said that the showdown between the United States and China in the AI field is imminent.
