At least 10 people injured or missing in explosion at Japanese paper company's U.S. factory
According to a report by Asahi Shimbun on May 27: On the 26th, a chemical tank explosion occurred at Dynawave Packaging, a merged subsidiary of Japan Paper Group located in Washington State, western United States, resulting in at least 10 injuries.
The local fire department stated that multiple deaths and missing persons have been reported. The exact number of fatalities or missing individuals has not yet been disclosed. Injured include firefighters who rushed to the scene, with varying degrees of injury severity.
According to the Japanese Consulate General in Seattle, the injured are not Japanese nationals.
According to U.S. media reports, the factory produces materials such as cardboard boxes, milk and juice cartons, as well as raw materials like printed paper and tissues. The workforce numbers approximately 1,000 employees.
The chemicals stored in the exploded tank are used for breaking down wood and manufacturing kraft paper. The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation.
