Reference News Network, August 24 report - According to Deutsche Welle, on August 24, Russian local officials said that an oil refinery in the Baltic port of Ust-Luga, Russia, caught fire after being attacked by a Ukrainian drone.

The governor of Leningrad Oblast, Alexander Drozdenko, wrote on the Telegram software that 10 drones were shot down over the port.

He wrote: "The debris from one of the drones caused a fire at the Novatek oil refinery." He added that fire and civil defense departments have been involved in firefighting efforts.

The report stated that Novatek is a petroleum and natural gas producer associated with the Kremlin, operating a liquefied natural gas production facility worth billions of euros on the Yamal Peninsula in the Arctic. Russia needs aviation fuel to sustain its war against Ukraine. Therefore, this refinery on the Baltic Sea had also been attacked before. (Translated by Guo Jun)
