【Medvedev: Russia is building unique scientific infrastructure, particularly large-scale scientific facilities】

On May 25, 2026, Moscow time, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, responded to questions from TASS, stating:

Science is inherently global and abhors artificial boundaries. Many Western countries are attempting to prevent their researchers from collaborating with Russia, blocking their access to publications and conferences. I believe they are ultimately punishing themselves. Domestic science should serve national interests, and Russia's absolute priority is technological sovereignty and leadership.

Medvedev added:

Russia maintains an open attitude toward scientific and educational exchanges. This is undoubtedly an important and useful tool, but it is by no means the ultimate goal. The center of gravity of the global economy, as well as science, is shifting eastward and southward. Therefore, Russia is actively and successfully establishing partnerships with countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States, BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and partners across Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

Medvedev concluded:

There is demand for joint research, Russian technology, and education across all parties. Today, we are building unique scientific infrastructure in Russia—particularly large-scale scientific facilities. Opportunities to use such equipment elsewhere in the world are limited. True scientists, including those from Western countries, fully understand this reality and are actively seeking ways to continue cooperation.
