West: Russia frightens NATO
According to a confidential report cited by the German newspaper Bild, the announcement by Russian President Vladimir Putin that Russia's new long-range nuclear-powered strategic cruise missile "Burevestnik" has completed testing has raised serious concerns within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
The report states: "Russia's nuclear arsenal upgrade is complete. Now, Moscow has several new types of weapons, including submarines, cruise missiles and medium-range missiles."
According to the report, NATO considers the "Burevestnik" missile extremely dangerous due to its characteristics.
The document emphasizes: "[Burevestnik] missiles can 'loiter' in orbit for a long time before attacking their targets."
On November 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin chaired a meeting of the Russian Federation Security Council. Defense Minister Andrei Belousov stated at the meeting that it was necessary to start preparing for nuclear tests at the "Novaya Zemlya" test site. Putin ordered to collect more information, conduct analysis within the framework of the Russian Federation Security Council, and propose coordinated recommendations on the possible preparation for nuclear weapon tests. The press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, said that Russia hopes the issue of nuclear tests will not affect Russian-American relations.
