White House goes all-in on resignation: unable to persuade Trump, so let him do as he pleases
The White House and the Republican Party have completely given up on trying to counsel Trump.
On the 9th, Axios news outlet cited multiple officials from the White House and the Republican Party, stating they no longer attempt to urge Trump to do or not do something—“after all, he’s the boss.”
The report notes that previously, Republicans nearly always complied with every idea and demand of Trump, justifying it by claiming his instincts were more “acute” than theirs. However, as the U.S.-Iran war has reached a stalemate and the midterm elections loom, with Trump offering no viable solution to end the conflict, many Republicans have lost faith in this instinctive approach. Yet at this point, they find themselves powerless to oppose Trump’s decisions.
As a result, numerous White House officials and close allies have been worn down by Trump’s constant demands and whims. Now, they’ve simply chosen to give up entirely: since they can’t stop Trump, they might as well let him do whatever he wants.
To be fair, this exposé by Axios isn’t particularly surprising. Earlier reports from American media had already indicated that Trump is extremely resistant to advice from his advisors—he operates according to a rigid set of logic and cognitive patterns of his own.
For instance, regarding military action against Iran, the State Department, CIA, and military leadership all concluded that Netanyahu’s belief—that destroying Khamenei would lead to Iran’s surrender—is impractical. But Trump stubbornly refuses to accept this reality and insists on pursuing that path. As a result, the conflict has dragged on to this day, leaving the U.S. stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Now, the White House team seems to have finally come to their senses: rather than wasting breath trying to convince a president who won’t listen, it’s better to just go along with his wishes.
At the end of the day, keeping the old man happy makes life easier for everyone. As long as he’s in a good mood, the entire White House staff avoids unnecessary scolding and extra work—whether national affairs get derailed as a result? Well, one can only take things as they come.
