Multiple Countries Evacuate Expatriates
In view of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, governments of various countries have urgently evacuated their expatriates currently in these two countries. Against the backdrop of Israel closing its airspace and frequent clashes between the two sides, many people have been forced to evacuate via neighboring countries, sometimes by bus, and at other times by walking across the border.
The Czech Ministry of Defense stated in a statement that due to the closure of Israeli airspace, the government's military aircraft cannot fly directly to Israel. Therefore, evacuees were transported by bus to an airport in a neighboring country. They crossed the border on foot.
The German government said it had arranged flights for Wednesday and Thursday to evacuate via Jordan. Several other European countries also repatriated their citizens from Israel.
The U.S. ambassador to Israel announced plans for evacuating American citizens by sea and air on Wednesday, stating that evacuation flights and cruise ships are being arranged for "American citizens wishing to leave Israel."
On Thursday, China's Foreign Ministry stated that more than 1,600 Chinese citizens have been evacuated from Iran and hundreds of Chinese citizens have been evacuated from Israel. All embassies and consulates "will continue to do everything possible to assist in the safe transfer and evacuation of Chinese citizens."
The Chinese Embassy in Israel also issued a notice on June 19, stating that the embassy will begin assisting Chinese citizens with evacuation wishes in batches starting June 20. They plan to exit Israel via bus through the Erez Crossing (located on the Israel-Egypt border) into Egypt.
