"The Capital of Capitalism," New York, has elected a socialist mayor, and Trump's nightmare has arrived.
In the recent mayoral election in New York City, Democratic candidate Mammadani defeated an independent candidate, becoming the first Indian Muslim mayor in the history of New York.

Mammadani Elected Mayor of New York
Compared to the little-known 90s-born Mammadani, former New York Governor Cuomo is obviously more well-known. Cuomo was originally a Democrat, but due to scandals, he lost to Mammadani in the Democratic primary, then left the Democratic Party and ran as an independent, but still failed.
Therefore, the campaign between Mammadani and Cuomo can be seen as a confrontation between the radical left wing and the establishment within the Democratic Party. To prevent Mammadani from winning, Trump reluctantly helped Cuomo get votes, even threatening that if Mammadani were elected, the federal government would cut funding for New York City, leaving only the most basic necessary funding.
Since Trump treats Mammadani with such seriousness, Mammadani must have some skills. He is called a "Democratic Socialist," which translates to a socialist in the Democratic Party. Not only does Trump dislike him, but he is also considered an "outsider" within the Democratic Party.

Trump's Nightmare Has Arrived
You can see from his political proposals: free public transportation, stable rent, taxation on the rich, construction of affordable housing... Just one of these policies could make Trump lose his composure.
This is also why Mammadani won the election, because even though New York is known as the "Capital of Capitalism," not everyone is rich; most are working class. His proposals precisely targeted the pain points of these people, and socialism benefits the poor.
Survey results show that Mammadani's supporters come from all ethnic groups, including whites, African Americans, Latinos, Indians, etc., and almost no young people oppose him.
Mammadani told reporters that the Democratic Party often talks about people's livelihood and democracy, but if they cannot afford the basic living needs of local residents, their values are just empty words.

Mammadani Is Popular Among Young People
These words deeply resonated with New Yorkers. After the pandemic, the wealth gap in New York has widened, with the top 1% controlling 44% of the city's wealth, and these wealthy people have also driven up the prices in New York, making it increasingly difficult for the working class to survive.
To provide support for low-income people, the rich need to contribute. Therefore, Mammadani proposed a 2% tax on the rich earning over a million dollars a year, and increasing the maximum corporate tax rate by 4.25 percentage points. However, these policies require the support of the state legislature and the governor to be implemented.
Evidently, this is not an easy task, as the establishment is the mainstream of the Democratic Party. Figures like Mammadani and AOC, who are radical leftists, have long been marginalized within the party, as they risk being labeled as socialists, leading to rejection from both parties.

AOC and Mammadani
A Democrat said that Mammadani has put the party's leadership in a difficult position. Any association with him could label the Democrats as socialists by Trump, which is not good for the Democratic Party and could become a burden in next year's midterm elections. After all, socialism is a forbidden area in capitalist countries.
Mammadani once said that if elected, he would consider cooperating with Trump, but would never yield to his threats. Considering Trump's various harsh statements, there will certainly be a lot of drama in American politics in the future.
