Han Media: Global Top 500 Unicorn Companies, the US Has 224, South Korea Only 8, What About China?

On January 2, the Korean media outlet "NEWSPIM" published an article stating that according to the survey results, in the global top 500 unicorn companies ranking, the United States and China accounted for 224 and 150 companies respectively.

Recently, the Unicorn Engineering Institute, in collaboration with research institutions such as Renmin University and Tsinghua University, announced the list of the global top 500 unicorn companies.

The Unicorn Engineering Institute evaluates enterprise value and selects the top 500 unlisted companies worldwide. The valuation is based on data as of September 30 of last year and is calculated in RMB.

A total of 118 new companies joined the global top 500 unicorn companies last year, an increase of 14 compared to the previous year. Among these 118 companies, 67 were American companies and 27 were Chinese companies.

In the 500 companies, American companies accounted for 224, or 44.8%. The total market value of these 224 companies reached 18.97 trillion RMB. China also has 150 companies listed among the global top 500 unicorn companies, with a total market value of 12.83 trillion RMB.

China and the United States together have 374 unicorn companies on the list, accounting for 74.8% of the total.

India ranks third with 29 companies; the UK ranks fourth with 20 companies; Canada and Germany are tied for fifth place with 11 companies each; France ranks seventh with 9 companies; South Korea ranks eighth with 8 companies; Israel and Brazil are tied for ninth place with 5 companies each.

In the global top 500 unicorn companies, the US space company SpaceX ranks first, with a valuation of 2.8 trillion RMB. SpaceX dominates the aerospace sector and is considered a leader in the global commercial space industry.

Second on the list is China's ByteDance, with a market value of 2.21 trillion RMB. ByteDance is the parent company of TikTok, and its recent valuation has risen significantly, mainly due to its achievements in the field of artificial intelligence.

OpenAI ranks third with a valuation of 2.1 trillion RMB; closely following is the AI startup Anthropic, with a valuation of 1.28 trillion RMB; India's Reliance Jio ranks fifth with a valuation of 1.08 trillion RMB.

China's DeepSeek ranks sixth with a company valuation of 1.05 trillion RMB; Alibaba Cloud ranks seventh with a company valuation of 805 billion RMB.

The Unicorn Engineering Institute assessed that "the United States excels in artificial intelligence, information technology, fintech, enterprise services, biotechnology, and aerospace, while China shows competitive advantages in advanced manufacturing, automotive, culture, tourism, and media."
