Trump urges to end the war between Israel and Hamas, Netanyahu flies to Washington for a meeting with Trump
Trump urges to end the war between Israel and Hamas, and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is under increasing pressure. He flew to Washington, preparing to meet with Trump on Monday. Before his departure, Netanyahu made a gesture. He said that he hoped the meeting with Trump would "help advance" the Gaza ceasefire agreement. He said: "We are working to reach an agreement that we have discussed under the conditions we agree on."
Previously, Netanyahu had stated that Hamas's response to the U.S.-backed ceasefire draft proposal contained "unacceptable" demands.
Now, Netanyahu has sent negotiators to Doha to hold indirect talks with Hamas. He said he gave the team clear instructions,
Two Palestinian sources close to the negotiations told AFP that the Palestinian side's proposal included a 60-day ceasefire, during which Hamas would release 10 hostages and some bodies in exchange for Palestinians detained by Israel.
They said Hamas also demanded guarantees that fighting would not break out again during the negotiations, and that the UN-led aid distribution system would be restored.
The Gaza Civil Defense reported that on Sunday, the Israeli army caused 26 deaths in the area.
They said that 10 people died in an attack on the Sheikh Radwan district of Gaza City before dawn. AFP images showed Palestinians manually searching through the ruins for survivors.
Due to media restrictions in Gaza and the difficulty of accessing many areas, AFP could not independently verify the casualty numbers and details provided by the Civil Defense.
The Israeli military told AFP that due to the lack of precise coordinates, they could not comment on specific air strikes.
The war has brought a severe humanitarian situation to more than 2 million people in Gaza.
Kalima Al-Ras from Khan Yunis in southern Gaza said, "We hope to announce a ceasefire" to get more aid.
"People are dying because of flour," she said.
In late May, Israel partially lifted the two-month-long blockade on the delivery of aid supplies, and an organization supported by the U.S. and Israel, the "Gaza Humanitarian Foundation," led food distribution in the area.
UN agencies and major aid organizations refused to cooperate with the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, fearing that the foundation aims to cater to Israel's military objectives.
Last week, the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights stated that more than 500 people had died waiting for food at the distribution points of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.
The Gaza Health Ministry reported a higher number of deaths on Sunday, reaching 751 people.
