Breaking News! Hong Kong now has an astronaut!

The China Manned Space Engineering Office recently held a press conference at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, where the spokesperson announced that the Shenzhou-23 spacecraft is scheduled to launch at 23:08 on the evening of the 24th, with the crew consisting of Zhu Yangzhu, Zhang Zhiyuan, and Li Jiaying (female). Li Jiaying is a Hong Kong-based astronaut from China.

This marks the first time that a person from Hong Kong has been stationed aboard a space station.

In 2012, Liu Yang traveled into space aboard Shenzhou-9, becoming China's first female astronaut.

Since then, astronauts Wang Yaping and Wang Haoze have also made their way into space.

Now, China welcomes its fourth female astronaut. Li Jiaying holds a Ph.D. from the University of Hong Kong, serves as a Senior Inspector in the Hong Kong Police Force, specializes in information technology, and is a mother of three children.

In 2024, she was selected as a payload specialist among the fourth batch of reserve astronauts.

During the mission, she is expected to conduct space science research, technical experiments, and manage and operate payload systems.
