According to reports by The Washington Examiner, an agency under the US Department of State, the Diplomatic Security Bureau, sent a security team to Brussels in advance to handle security matters at the hotel and other places during Rubio's visit. One member of the team had a conflict with a hotel staff member last Monday (March 31).
Reportedly, according to sources, after the hotel staff refused to open the bar outside normal business hours, the security personnel became furious. When the hotel staff tried to persuade him to return to his room, the security personnel showed aggressive behavior. The police then arrived and he was arrested after clashing with several police officers. After the US Embassy in Belgium intervened, the security personnel was released later that evening.
The Hill reported that the US Department of State spokesperson said in an email statement to the media that the Diplomatic Security Bureau has noticed the allegations involving one of its staff members, and the incident is under investigation.
