[Kremlin: France Fails to Understand the "Essence of Russia"]

On May 31st, Kremlin Spokesman Peskov told Rossiya 1 Channel journalist Pavel Zarubin that France is "walking down the path of increasing pressure on Russia" rather than the path to peace.

He pointed out, "France still believes it can gain benefits through pressure on Russia, which shows that it completely fails to understand our essence." Peskov expressed regret over French President Macron's "lack of understanding of the actual situation."

On May 26th, after Trump criticized Putin for being "completely out of control" and "arbitrarily killing Ukrainian civilians," Macron responded by saying he hoped to transform this "anger" into "action," particularly a "larger sanctions package."

In response to the above remarks, Peskov acknowledged Washington's efforts to initiate talks between Ukraine and Russia, thanked Trump for his "assistance," and noted that such statements are "related to everyone's emotional overload and reactions," while Moscow continues to monitor developments.

He also emphasized that "hypothetical discussions" about the impact of possible US sanctions on the Russia-Ukraine negotiations are inappropriate. In fact, they are "undermining the peace process" and attempting to "stir up American support for sanctions."
