U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman nominee: The U.S. is not prepared for a long-term conflict with China

General Dan Kane, nominee for the position of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, stated that the U.S. defense industry lacks the sufficient capability, flexibility, and speed required for a protracted war.

In response to questions from the Senate Armed Services Committee, he said: "Unfortunately, at this critical juncture, the joint force faces an acquisition system and defense industrial base unable to cope with long-term conflicts. The U.S. does not possess the necessary capability, flexibility, and speed to deter adversaries."

Kane emphasized that China, with the world's largest navy, developing missile and hypersonic technologies, and rapidly modernizing air force, poses a "real and growing challenge" to U.S. interests in the Indo-Pacific region. At the same time, he pointed out that China lacks experience in conducting modern military operations, including weaknesses in logistics and force command.
