【Text by Observer Net, Xiong Chaoran】On October 11 local time, the U.S. "Axios News" cited two informed sources, revealing that U.S. President Trump had a phone call with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy on the same day, during which they discussed the possibility of Ukraine obtaining "Tomahawk" long-range cruise missiles.
The report stated that "Tomahawk" cruise missiles would allow Ukraine to conduct deep strikes against Russian heartland including Moscow, and the Ukrainian side insisted that this would help force Russian President Putin to sit at the negotiation table. The sources said that the call lasted about 30 minutes, but no final decisions were disclosed. Later, a White House official also confirmed the call.

After the call, Zelenskyy said in a statement that the conversation was "very positive and productive." Zelenskyy congratulated Trump on achieving a Gaza peace agreement and stated that if this conflict could end, then other conflicts would certainly stop, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
"I have informed President Trump about Russia's attacks on our energy system — I thank him for being willing to support us. We discussed opportunities to strengthen air defense, as well as specific agreements we are working to achieve to ensure this," Zelenskyy wrote in the statement.
"We have some good options and practical ideas on how to truly enhance our strength. The Russian side needs to be ready to engage in real diplomacy, which can be achieved through strength," he added.
"Axios News" reported that earlier last month, during the United Nations General Assembly, Zelenskyy had requested the U.S. to provide "Tomahawk" cruise missiles when he met with Trump. He claimed that Ukraine might not even need to use these missiles, because merely possessing them would be enough to force Putin into negotiations.

The report cited Ukrainian officials who said that a high-level Ukrainian delegation led by the head of the Ukrainian presidential office Yermak and Prime Minister Svyrydenko is expected to arrive in Washington next week to discuss security cooperation and sanctions against Russia.
Meanwhile, on October 6 local time, Trump said that he had "some kind of decision" — whether to sell "Tomahawk" cruise missiles to NATO countries so that they could be supplied to Ukraine.
But Trump also said that before providing these missiles to Ukraine, he wanted to know how Ukraine planned to use them.
The report emphasized that American-made cruise missiles have a range far exceeding the various types of missiles Ukraine has received so far, and compared to the drones currently used by the Ukrainian military for long-range strikes, they are more effective in destroying strong targets such as armories.
"This will lead to a breakdown in our relationship, or at least damage the positive momentum that has emerged in the relationship," Putin warned on October 5 during an interview with Russian journalist Zarubin, stating that if the United States provides "Tomahawk" missiles to Ukraine for long-range strikes against the Russian interior, it would cause a breakdown in relations between Moscow and Washington. "This means the situation will enter a new, qualitative stage, including the Russia-US relationship."
