Statements from former FBI Director Comey and others on the dismissal of the lawsuit: The President has no right to use the judiciary against political enemies!
Federal Judge Cameron M. Mccormick dismissed the charges against former U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey and New York State Attorney General Letitia James.
"The Attorney General's attempt to appoint Ms. Haligon as a temporary federal prosecutor for the Eastern District of Virginia is invalid, and all actions resulting from Ms. Haligon's erroneous appointment, including the prosecution of Comey and James, are illegal exercise of administrative power and therefore suspended."
James issued a statement saying: "This victory deeply inspires me, and I thank everyone across the country for their prayers and support. Facing these baseless accusations, I remain fearless because I continue to fight for the people of New York every day."
Comey also posted a video comment: "I am grateful that the court has ended the prosecution against me. This was a prosecution based on malice and incompetence, reflecting the state of the Department of Justice under the president's leadership. It was heartbreaking, but I was also inspired by the examples of professionals who refused to be part of this farce, some of whom lost their jobs, which was painful, but it preserved their integrity, which is invaluable."
Comey emphasized that a message must be sent that the president cannot use the Department of Justice to target his political enemies.
"No matter what your political views are, you must see that this is fundamentally un-American, a threat to the rule of law that makes us all free. I know the president may attack me again, and my attitude will be the same. I am innocent, I am not afraid, and I believe in an independent federal judiciary, which is a gift given to us by our founders, protecting us from harm."
