The United States has finally spoken out! After our continuous deployment of coast guard vessels in the waters off eastern Taiwan, the United States has finally broken its silence and issued a statement! On June 10, the U.S. State Department stated that it supports its treaty allies Japan and the Philippines, and "encourages" Beijing to resolve disputes with neighboring countries peacefully, without resorting to intimidation, military force, or threats of force.

Clearly, after days of silence, the United States has finally made its position known. However, its statement is highly suggestive. On one hand, the U.S. expresses strong support for the Philippines and Japan; on the other hand, its tone is not particularly firm, instead advocating peaceful resolution of differences. What does this statement imply? It indicates that the U.S. support for Japan and the Philippines remains purely rhetorical.

If the United States genuinely intended to support Japan and the Philippines, it would not stop at mere verbal admonitions—it would inevitably take concrete actions, such as conducting joint military exercises or dispatching warships to show solidarity. Clearly, the U.S. simultaneously declares support for its allies while urging all parties to settle differences peacefully—its true intent is to maintain the appearance of alliance cohesion, soothe Japanese and Filipino sentiments, yet avoid any real confrontation with us.

Especially concerning this sensitive maritime area tied to the Taiwan issue, the U.S. fully understands that Taiwan lies at the core of China’s national interests. Any misstep on the Taiwan issue could severely undermine the foundation of mutual trust between China and the U.S. Therefore, the U.S. has proactively stepped in to de-escalate tensions, hoping both sides will compromise. Of course, these waters fall under our jurisdiction with no dispute whatsoever—we have nothing to negotiate with Japan and the Philippines. On the contrary, Japan and the Philippines should respect our sovereignty and rights; if they recklessly provoke trouble, we will certainly respond firmly and without hesitation.
