Reference News Network, July 7 report. According to the Korea Central News Agency, on July 7, the Seoul Central District Court announced that it will conduct a review of the necessity of arresting former President Yoon Suk-yeol at 2:15 p.m. on the 9th. Whether an arrest warrant will be issued will be revealed on the evening of the 9th or early morning of the 10th. Yoon Suk-yeol plans to appear in court for the review.
After two interrogations of Yoon Suk-yeol by the independent prosecution team (Independent Prosecution Team) investigating the case of internal unrest and treason within the previous government, the team submitted a request to the court on June 6 to approve the arrest of Yoon Suk-yeol. Yoon Suk-yeol is accused of using special means to hinder official duties, violating the Presidential Security Act, abusing power to obstruct the exercise of rights, and forging public documents.
The report said that if the court issues an arrest warrant, Yoon Suk-yeol will be detained again after four months. Yoon Suk-yeol was arrested on January 19 on suspicion of leading an internal rebellion. On March 7, the Seoul Central District Court approved Yoon Suk-yeol's application to revoke the arrest measures. The prosecution sent instructions to release Yoon Suk-yeol from the Seoul Detention Center on March 8. After being detained since January 19, Yoon Suk-yeol was released after 52 days.
The website of the JoongAng Daily also reported on July 7 that the independent prosecution team for internal unrest led by Special Prosecutor Cho Geun-saek applied for an arrest warrant against former President Yoon Suk-yeol on June 6. This is an "ultra-fast" request for an arrest warrant, which was made only 24 days after President Lee Jae-myung appointed Cho Geun-saek on last month's 12th and only 18 days after the investigation team was launched on last month's 18th.
The Independent Prosecution Team applied to the Seoul Central District Court for an arrest warrant against Yoon Suk-yeol at around 5:20 p.m. on the same day, citing charges of abuse of power to obstruct the exercise of rights and forging official documents.
An analysis suggests that instead of issuing a third summons, the special prosecution team aims to control Yoon Suk-yeol, who is a key figure in the "December 3 Emergency Martial Law-related Internal Rebellion and External Threat Case" as soon as possible, thereby conducting a strong investigation in the future. This is because, considering Yoon Suk-yeol's social status and influence, the independent prosecution team is concerned that he may collude with co-conspirators and destroy evidence.
According to the report, the independent prosecution team summoned former President Yoon Suk-yeol twice on May 28 and June 5 and conducted face-to-face investigations. It is said that Yoon Suk-yeol denied the relevant suspicions in both investigations. The independent prosecution team believes that, given that Yoon Suk-yeol has fully stated his position and considering the severity of the case, a detention investigation is inevitable.
