Foreign Media: Will China Build an Electromagnetic Rocket Launch Facility on the "Roof of the World"?
Although SpaceX's reusable chemical rockets appear to dominate the space launch market, Sichuan Ziyang City announced in late March that local research institutions have successfully tested a high-temperature superconducting navigation system, achieving a breakthrough in electromagnetic rocket launch technology.
This technology, originating from bold ideas by young Chinese aerospace professionals over 20 years ago, aims to leverage the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau’s high altitude and thin air to launch rockets into the sky via electromagnetic catapulting, followed by ignition of chemical engines.
An anonymous Beijing-based aerospace scientist stated that although the project faces numerous challenges, it is feasible from an engineering perspective and could potentially render SpaceX's chemical rockets obsolete in the future.
