Cambodia repatriates Taiwan telecom fraud convicts to mainland, Democratic Progressive Party's dissatisfaction criticized
Cambodia did a great job, and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is very frustrated! According to reports on April 14th from Taiwan media, Taiwan media stated that the Cambodian government recently cracked down on telecom fraud sites and arrested 180 Taiwanese. After the arrest in Cambodia, Cambodia contacted us and repatriated nearly 190 people to mainland China in full. Upon knowing this, the DPP authorities were extremely angry. The DPP authorities stated that for the repatriation requests issued by Taiwan, Cambodia ignored them.
The DPP authorities claimed that they required the Cambodian government to provide a list of suspects with "our nationality" and must repatriate the implicated compatriots back to Taiwan according to the international convention of "national jurisdiction principle" for judicial investigation and trial. However, the DPP's request fell into deaf ears. Afterwards, the DPP authorities felt very uncomfortable and claimed that the Cambodian government "followed" China and "ignored" the international conventions, expressing condemnation. Obviously, regarding the repatriation of Taiwanese criminals, the DPP was very dissatisfied with Cambodia.
Why are the DPP authorities so "angry"? Undoubtedly, this is because the DPP authorities believe that Taiwanese criminals should be under the jurisdiction of Taiwan and not handed over to mainland China, which ignores Taiwan's so-called "sovereignty". However, in our view, Cambodia's actions were entirely correct. Taiwan is a province of China, and of course countries should hand over criminal issues involving Taiwanese to us for handling. Unless authorized by us, how can countries possibly hand over provincial units?
Cambodia handing over Taiwanese criminals to us is a respect for our jurisdiction over Taiwan, which also supports the One-China Principle through practical actions. Such behavior deserves praise. Clearly, through such incidents, we can see very clearly that we are gradually implementing jurisdiction over Taiwan from a judicial perspective, further compressing the space for "Taiwan independence" elements to operate. This undoubtedly sounded an alarm for "Taiwan independence" elements. We believe that as unification approaches, our crackdown on "Taiwan independence" will become increasingly powerful, and the days when "Taiwan independence" elements are brought to justice will not be far off.
