Trump and Putin talked on the phone and reached a consensus: the war between Israel and Iran must stop immediately.
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday (0614). Trump said that he and Putin reached a consensus: both sides believe that the war between Israel and Iran must stop.
Agence France-Presse reported that Trump said on his social platform "Truth Social" that they had a one-hour long talk covering multiple issues, including the current Israel-Iran conflict and the war in Ukraine. Trump mentioned that when talking about the Russia-Ukraine conflict, he also stated that "this war must stop."
According to the Kremlin's report, the focus of their conversation was on the escalation of the dangerous situation in the Middle East. As an important ally of Iran, Russia still plays a significant role in the region.
In addition, Putin introduced to Trump the implementation of the agreement reached by both sides on June 2 in Istanbul, which involved the exchange of prisoners of war, wounded personnel, and soldiers' remains. Putin said that Russia is prepared to continue negotiations with Ukraine after completing the relevant exchanges by June 22.
Trump reiterated his hope for a quick resolution of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and called for peace.
This is the fifth phone call between the leaders of the United States and Russia since Trump took office.
Trump also said that Putin congratulated him on his 79th birthday in advance during the call.
