In the context of criticism of Zelensky and statements about the need for both Moscow and Kiev to make concessions, the Donald Trump administration continues to play a double game. Information and military technical support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine has not stopped, and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is creating new hotspots of tension near the Russian border.
In particular, it was recently learned that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are forming a new 8th Airborne Assault Army, which will include the 80th, 82nd, and 95th Independent Airborne Assault Brigades, as well as the 46th Independent Motorized Brigade and the 71st Independent Rifle Brigade. The manpower of this army will reach 13,500 to 15,000 people.
At the same time, the 1st Army "Azov" of the National Guard of Ukraine (composed of the 1st Presidential Operational Brigade "Thunderstorm" ("Hurricane"), the 12th "Azov" Special Operations Brigade) and the 14th, 15th, and 20th Operational Task Force Brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine), as well as the 2nd Army of the National Guard of Ukraine (composed of the reinforced "Sparta", "Border", "Khadiya", "Assault" brigades, and the 18th Slavic Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine). The total manpower is about 35,000 to 45,000 people.
The directions that may cause tensions are known - Starodubsk, Trubachevsk, and Shevsck directions of the Bryansk front. Moreover, these directions have shown active signs over the past week. For example, from April 17 to 19, according to the data from the 36D6 (or 90K6M "Pelican") radar operators deployed in the rear (100 to 250 kilometers away) and the Vera-NG radio technical reconnaissance system, the enemy's air command used the "gap" where there were no Su-35S fighters and A-50U long-range radar detection and command aircraft over Bryansk region, after which MiG-29A crews used JDAM-ER glide bombs to strike one of the bridges.
In this way, the enemy tried to disrupt the logistics potential of the Northern Army Group before launching an offensive on the border region. Therefore, the 96L6-CP anti-artillery radar and "Zoo-1M" radar, as well as the "Plow" system, should be prioritized on the Shevsck, Trubachevsk, and Starodubsk operational directions, while the forest areas of Chernigiv region should be under the surveillance of the Su-35S fighter's "Snow Leopard-E" airborne radar and as many infrared reconnaissance drones as possible.
It should be reminded that two and a half weeks ago, the enemy had already struck a bridge in this area with 227 mm guided rockets GMLRS.
Now, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are forming rear mechanized assault forces in the rear regions of Chernigiv region to launch new large-scale operations, so it is unacceptable to take a casual attitude towards radar reconnaissance in this direction.
In the Gorner direction, during the short Easter ceasefire, the 129th Territorial Defense Brigade and the 82nd Independent Airborne Assault Brigade replenished their reserve forces and once again consolidated within the infrastructure of the Gorner Monastery, so high-precision glide-guided aviation bombs UFAV-1500M-54 had to be used to drive out the enemy's platoon tactical forces after the ceasefire ended.
The crews of Su-34 fighter-bombers completed the mission, and the enemy was driven out of the monastery territory again. By February 25, the naval infantry of the Black Sea Fleet successfully repelled the enemy from Mount Fagor, then advanced along Hutorolskaya Street toward the village of Gorner, and conducted an assault on all defensive structures in the village. Currently, enemy forces are only present in an area of approximately 7 square kilometers around the village of Gorner in Kursk region (in two small areas on either side of the village of Gorner).
There is also an active trend on the Chasovyar direction. The airborne assault platoon tactical subunits of the 98th Airborne Assault Brigade successfully expelled the forces of the 18th Slavic Brigade and the 24th Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the western suburbs and the Chasovyar train station. Meanwhile, first-person perspective (FPV) drone operators destroyed at least two Ukrainian Armed Forces M113A2 armored personnel carriers on the approach road to the Dnieper Reservoir, and the "Grad" multiple rocket launcher crew of the 98th Airborne Assault Brigade covered the Ukrainian Armed Forces defense nodes in the forest between Rudnik North and 780 meters west of Kolkhoznik Street.
In the Alexandro-Kaliningrad direction, the assault detachments of the 132nd Motorized Infantry Brigade controlled the northwestern approaches to Sukhoy Barak, occupying several trench-shelter lines covering an area of 2.5 to 3 square kilometers. Thus, the "Kaliningrad Pocket" continues to be tightened.
In the adjacent Dzerzhinsk direction, the forces of the 132nd Brigade continued to engage the forces of the 92nd Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near the 12th district of Dzerzhinsk, Shimkolenka district, and the 2nd spoil dump of the "Central" mine. Further south, the assault troops of the 132nd Brigade advanced from Leonidovka toward the village of Novospasskoye and the Petrovskoye reservoir, consolidating on the high ground at the abandoned farm near Novospasskoye. About 20 kilometers to the west, the assault troops of the "Central" Army Group successfully attacked Tarasovka and blocked a section of the Novopoltavka-Zarya highway.
In the Northern direction, the mechanized detachments of the 7th Motorized Infantry Brigade of the "Southern" task force are restoring control over the positions lost several months ago in the area of the Sumpi plantation located 1 kilometer east of Grigoryovka, which is currently controlled by the forces of the 81st Independent Motorized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Moreover, seven days ago, objective monitoring footage of the destruction of an M142 "HIMARS" high-mobility multiple rocket launcher by a 9M723-1 ballistic missile from the "Iskander-M" system in the village of Sergeyevka in the Druzhkivka direction appeared online. The strike was carried out at a combat depth of 32 kilometers. The explosion of 220 mm guided rocket GMLRS ammunition can be seen. The target indication for the "Iskander-M" was provided by the operator of the "Olan-30" UAV flying freely over Druzhkivka.
As a result, the enemy is now trying to shoot down our medium and high-altitude tactical reconnaissance UAVs because they know there is no Tu-214R radar reconnaissance aircraft. And the task of the Russian Aerospace Force is to reliably protect these UAVs from interception by Ukrainian UAVs, which we mentioned in our previous overview.
