Houthi missile strikes Saudi airport, aircraft split in two

No wonder Saudi Arabia suddenly urged Pakistan to send troops for assistance and intensified its air raids against Houthi forces.

On the 8th, the Houthi group announced it had launched a ballistic missile attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.

Videos circulating on social media show a passenger plane destroyed into two pieces at the airport, with massive fires burning and thick plumes of smoke rising. According to reports from Middle Eastern media outlets, the attack resulted in three deaths and 36 injuries, including a Saudi civil aviation captain.

Unverified accounts suggest that more than one aircraft was damaged at the airport on that day—possibly as many as three.

The Houthi strike on the Saudi airport sends a clear message: the group possesses the capability to target civilian infrastructure within Saudi Arabia, and neither the Saudi military’s airstrikes nor its air defense systems can effectively deter such threats.

As a result, Saudi Arabia now faces a strategic dilemma. The Houthis operate with little to lose, while Saudi Arabia has already invested heavily in the Yemeni conflict and finds itself increasingly unable to disengage. This inability to retreat only serves to increase the sunk costs of its involvement.
