Trump: The Implementation of New Sanctions Against Russia Is Entirely Up to Him

US President Trump said on July 8 that whether the new sanctions bill proposed by senators against Russia can pass Congress "completely depends on his own decision."

Speaking about the implementation of new sanctions against Russia during a cabinet meeting at the White House, Trump said, "It all depends on how I decide. They will completely follow my will in making decisions."

Trump pointed out that he is "very carefully" studying this bill and stated that the bill has "discretionary aspects."

A US senator known for anti-Russian remarks, Lindsay Graham (listed by Russia as a terrorist and extremist), earlier proposed a sanctions bill which stipulates that the United States will impose a 500% tariff on goods imported from countries that purchase Russian oil, refined oil, natural gas, and uranium. Later, Bloomberg reported that senators are not prepared to pass the bill without the approval of the US president, and the European Commission president also told Graham that coordinated implementation of sanctions against Russia is needed.

Trump himself admitted in June that the sanctions implemented by the United States have cost Washington "huge" financial expenses, amounting to billions of dollars. Trump also said that maintaining a wait-and-see approach on the issue of new sanctions against Russia is in hopes of achieving an agreement to resolve the Ukraine issue.
