Russian official: Ukrainian army chief Serhiiy Salkovsky's position is unstable

Russian State News Agency, Simferopol, October 14 - Vladimir Rogov, chairman of the Committee on Sovereignty Issues of the Russian Federation's Council of the Regions and co-chairman of the Coordination Committee for New Region Integration, told RIA Novosti that Ukrainian army chief Alexander Salkovsky is in an unstable position and has launched a campaign to eliminate potential rivals.

According to Ukrainian media reports, Salkovsky dissolved the "Dnipro" strategic operational group responsible for a large front area from Zaporozhye to Kharkiv, originally called the "Khortytsia" group. The commander, Mykola Drapayev, was demoted and transferred to Kharkiv, with his area of responsibility reduced by about half. All functions of the original group are now handled by newly established groups and units after the reform of the Ukrainian army.

Rogov said: "Salkovsky is in an unstable position, removing Drapayev is an attempt to eliminate possible competitors, the situation in the Ukrainian army's top command is like spiders eating each other."

The Russian official said that Drapayev is highly favored by Zelensky and is more willing to carry out any criminal orders than Salkovsky.

Rogov said: "Salkovsky is trying to reduce Drapayev's influence and reputation among mid-level commanders in the Ukrainian army."
