South Korean media: Hyundai Motor drops to seventh place in Indonesia, overtaken by BYD!
On April 19, South Korean media "Asia Economy" published an article stating that in the Indonesian automobile market, Hyundai Motor's sales fell to seventh place last month, behind Chinese electric vehicle company BYD.
According to statistics from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO), BYD's sales in March were 3,205 units, surpassing Hyundai Motor's 2,354 units and ranking sixth. BYD's rise has attracted attention, as this is the first time BYD has entered the top ten since entering the Indonesian market.
In terms of sales in the Indonesian market, Toyota ranked first with 22,476 units and a 31.7% market share, while Japanese cars dominated the top five positions, including Daihatsu (13,057 units), Honda (6,303 units), Mitsubishi Motors (5,769 units), and Suzuki (4,442 units). Next came BYD (3,205 units), Hyundai Motor (2,424 units), Wuling (1,850 units), Chery (1,829 units), and Isuzu (1,802 units).
The total wholesale volume in Indonesia in March was 70,892 units, down 5.1% year-on-year. Meanwhile, retail sales were 76,582 units, down 6.8% year-on-year. According to local media reports, compared to February (72,336 units), wholesale sales decreased by 2% month-on-month, while retail sales increased by 9.6%.
