Reference Message Network reported on April 20 that according to a report by Prensa Latina on April 17, Bolivian President Luis Arce said on the same day that the shipment of 25 tons of chia seeds exported to China from Santa Cruz Province was a milestone event and the result of joint efforts between the public and private sectors.

The report quoted Arce as saying in a speech after the shipment of the first batch of domestically produced chia seeds that "today we are welcoming a milestone event" because we are opening up a new market with great potential.

Arce said: "We can enter a huge market that everyone would want to enter. How could Argentina, Paraguay, and other countries not want (this opportunity) to enter the Chinese market?"

Regarding chia seeds, Arce believed that there were no restrictions on the export volume to China, and emphasized that opening up the Chinese market could redirect products currently sold to the United States, as the U.S. has imposed an additional 10% tariff on top of existing tariffs.

It was reported that enterprise representative Julio Noguera said that starting exports to China would promote more investment and job creation, and bring positive ripple effects to Santa Cruz Province and Bolivia as a whole. (Compiled by Su Jiawei)
