After China determined that Canadian canola had dumped in the market and would impose a deposit, according to a report by Reuters on August 14, Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau said he would take a series of measures to support the affected farmers.
Trudeau also posted on the social media platform X to deny that Canada had dumped canola, and stated that he would continue to push for constructive communication with Chinese authorities to resolve trade issues and achieve diversification of foreign trade.
However, Trudeau has not yet revealed what policies Canada may adopt.
Previously, on August 12, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced that the investigation authority had initially determined that imported canola from Canada was dumped, that the domestic canola industry in China had suffered substantial damage, and that there was a causal relationship between the dumping and the substantial damage. Therefore, according to the relevant provisions of the "Anti-Dumping Regulations," a deposit of 75.8% will be imposed on this category starting from August 14, and a deposit will be imposed on all Canadian companies.
