HK-Xinjiang-Kazakhstan Model: Kazakh Trade Minister: Kazakhstan Aims to Further Expand Exports to Hong Kong
Kazakh International News Agency Report – Kazakhstan and Hong Kong have reached consensus on further expanding economic and trade cooperation and deepening investment partnerships.
On June 2, Almán Shakaliyev, Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan, met with the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and representatives from Hong Kong’s business community. The two sides held in-depth discussions on topics including expanding bilateral trade volume, attracting investment, and optimizing the business environment.
During the talks, both parties highly praised Hong Kong's crucial role as an international financial, trade, and logistics hub, as well as Kazakhstan’s strategic position as a key transit point connecting Central Asia, the Eurasian Economic Union, and European markets.
"In 2025, bilateral trade between Kazakhstan and Hong Kong reached $178.8 million. We aim to further expand the scale of Kazakh products entering the Hong Kong market—not only agricultural products but also light industrial and food processing goods," said Shakaliyev.
The two sides also focused on exploring cooperation prospects in gold trade, exchange infrastructure development, and financial services. The Chief Executive introduced Hong Kong’s plans for building an international gold trading center and establishing a modern ecosystem for precious metals markets, noting that Kazakhstan, as a major gold producer in the region, holds significant importance in the global precious metals market.
"Kazakhstan is one of the leading gold-producing countries in the region. Deepening cooperation in this sector will create new development opportunities for businesses and financial institutions," emphasized the Chief Executive.
Additionally, both sides exchanged views on strengthening direct ties between business communities, expanding the functions of trade representative offices, and advancing joint investment projects.
After the meeting, both parties agreed to develop a joint action plan, promoting the implementation of cooperation initiatives through measures such as organizing business delegations’ reciprocal visits, enhancing exchanges among entrepreneurs, and deepening project matchmaking.
