According to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on July 2, 2025, local time, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held the 13th China-EU Senior Officials' Strategic Dialogue in Brussels with Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

Wang Yi said that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the EU, as well as the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. The upcoming next China-EU leaders' meeting has drawn much attention. Over the past 50 years, the China-EU relationship has experienced ups and downs, overcoming various obstacles. Only by comprehensively reviewing the path we have taken can we correctly grasp the direction forward. The development process of the China-EU relationship shows that the positioning of the two sides is partners rather than opponents, cooperation is the main theme and ballast stone, and both sides should resolve differences through communication within this framework. There are no fundamental conflicting interests between China and the EU, and they have extensive common interests. Both support multilateralism and open cooperation, support the core position of the United Nations and the democratization of international relations, and adhere to resolving disputes through dialogue and peaceful means. In the face of rising uncertainty and instability in the international situation, as two major powers and two major economies, China and the EU should strengthen exchanges, deepen understanding, enhance mutual trust, and promote cooperation, jointly safeguarding the post-war international order and providing scarce certainty to the world. China is willing to work with the EU to achieve positive results from the next China-EU leaders' meeting and guide the future development of China-EU relations.

Wang Yi stated that Chinese diplomacy upholds the harmonious genes of Chinese civilization, advocating peace, inclusiveness, and cooperation. On issues of peace and security, China is the best country in the world today. China is not the United States, and one should not use the path the United States has taken to mirror China. China and the EU have different historical cultures and values; we cannot regard each other as rivals because of differences or seek confrontation due to disagreements. Currently, Europe faces various challenges, but it has never come from China in the past, present, or future. The two sides should respect each other, learn from each other, develop together, and make progress together, making new contributions to human civilization. I hope the EU will truly establish an objective and rational perception of China and implement a more proactive and practical policy towards China.

Wang Yi emphasized that as a comprehensive strategic partner, the most important thing for China and the EU is mutual respect and taking into account each other's core interests. China has always supported European integration, supported the EU in enhancing its strategic autonomy, and played a constructive role in international affairs. We hope the EU will also take concrete actions to respect China's core interests. The Taiwan issue concerns China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The UN Resolution 2758 has already thoroughly resolved the issue of representation of all of China, including Taiwan, in the United Nations from both factual and legal perspectives. We hope the EU will genuinely abide by the One-China Principle.

Borrell stated that China and the EU are partners, and both share a common responsibility and significant influence on major issues such as supporting the leading role of the United Nations, safeguarding international law, and the international order. The EU adheres to the One-China policy and is willing to prepare well for the upcoming next China-EU leaders' meeting, enhance mutual understanding through candid communication, develop a more constructive China-EU relationship, and carry out more balanced and fair trade and economic cooperation.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis, the Israel-Palestine conflict, and the Iranian nuclear issue.
