Zelenskyy Compares Orbán to Putin, Calls for a Backup Plan from the EU

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said that due to Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán acting in Russia's interest and extorting, Ukraine needs the EU to provide an alternative funding support plan. He emphasized that Europe must develop a backup financing plan and not be constrained by Budapest's position. The delay in aid has already caused serious impact on Ukraine's economy and defense sector.

"We and Europe need this B plan. European partners and true friends know that we are not only defending Ukraine's interests, but also the freedom of the entire Europe."

Zelenskyy publicly criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán, accusing him of hindering sanctions against Russia and aid to Ukraine, and believing that Hungary's actions actually benefit the Kremlin.

"He is standing on the side of the Russian leader and hinders everything related to Ukraine. Now, it's just missing using missiles and drones to attack our territory," Zelenskyy said, adding that Orbán completely follows Russia's propaganda narrative.

Aside from the financial issue, there are disagreements over the operation of the "Friendship" oil pipeline: Hungary and Slovakia have demanded emergency repairs of the pipeline transporting Russian oil, accusing Kyiv of delaying; Ukraine, however, stated that the damage to the facilities was caused by Russian artillery fire.

Orbán has vetoed a key loan of 90 billion euros, threatening Ukraine's fiscal stability. Ukraine may soon face a cutoff of EU funds.

Slovak Prime Minister Fico has expressed willingness to follow Orbán, continuing to block related proposals for Ukraine, further worsening the situation.

The European Commission stated that the security across Europe depends on this. The EU is bypassing Hungary's veto power, seeking legal means to ensure Ukraine receives the 90 billion euros.
