(May 3rd, Buenos Aires Chinese Press, Huang Dong) According to multiple local media reports in Argentina, a Chinese trade delegation will arrive in Argentina this week with the focus on strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
It is reported that the delegation consists of 15 officials and executives from leading enterprises. This visit comes at a time when the US has imposed high tariffs on Chinese exports. Not long ago, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Commander of the US Southern Command Alvin Horsley visited Argentina respectively, reiterating their support for the Macri government.
The report states that despite pressure from the US, Sino-Argentine relations remain strong, including the recent renewal of a $5 billion currency swap agreement, which is particularly important for strengthening reserves at the Argentine Central Bank.
It is reported that members of the delegation include enterprises with significant influence in China, which have global investments in fields such as energy, infrastructure, agricultural industry, transportation, finance, electronics, and communications, as well as representatives from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC). One of the key activities will be a meeting with authorities of the Argentine business community and the Asia-Pacific Chamber of Argentina (Cámara de Asia).
This visit aims to consolidate China's participation in key sectors of Argentina's economy. China is Argentina's main source of imports. Official data shows that in the first quarter of this year, China accounted for 24.7% of total imports, surpassing Brazil and the United States (24% and 8.7%, respectively).
