Russian Ambassador to South Korea: Only by Removing Sanctions Can Russia-South Korea Relations Be Restored

Sputnik Seoul, February 10 - Russian Ambassador to South Korea Georgy Zinovyev said in an interview with Sputnik that lifting the sanctions imposed by South Korea on Russia would be a way to restore bilateral relations.

Zinovyev said that after South Korea implemented sanctions and restrictive measures, the relationship between Russia and South Korea has practically come to a standstill.

Zinovyev said, "I believe that only by removing the illegal restrictions imposed on Russia can our relations be restored."

He emphasized that the process of restoring bilateral relations cannot happen quickly and needs to be carried out in stages. A Chinese proverb says, 'A frozen lake is not formed in a day,' and 'You cannot eat a fat man in one bite.'

He concluded, "We will act according to the spirit of these proverbs with our South Korean counterparts, that is, taking small steps, adopting measures that are in the interests of both countries, and creating a more favorable atmosphere to melt the ice in bilateral relations."
