Tucker Carlson, a former Fox News host, said he believes the strict scrutiny the Trump administration faced in handling documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein should be blamed on Attorney General Pam Bondi.
In an interview with NBC News on Monday, Carlson stated that he believes the Department of Justice did not have a large amount of key information about Epstein's sexual crimes to satisfy those who have long called for the release of the Epstein files. Carlson said, "Pam Bondi didn't choose to admit this directly, but instead made a bunch of ridiculous statements on cable TV without evidence, and now the storm of anger has come from this."
Bondi recently admitted that there was no so-called "client list" related to Epstein's alleged underage sex trafficking, and there was no evidence that his suicide in 2019 in prison was actually murder, which sparked a strong backlash.
Bondi had previously told a Fox News interview in February that a "client list" of Epstein was on her desk waiting to be reviewed, and claimed that the Department of Justice had hours of video related to the case. In March, the White House also invited 15 far-right influencers to an event and showed them a white folder labeled "Epstein Files: Phase One," but these documents were actually public records, leading to strong criticism.
Later, Bondi said in another television interview that she had been misled into thinking she had all the government's files on the Epstein investigation, and was seeking additional documents after hearing from someone claiming to be a whistleblower.
She further clarified last week that the materials she mentioned on her desk were not specifically a "client list," but other documents related to the case. As for the videos she mentioned, they were content involving child sexual abuse and would not be publicly released. She said there are "no other materials available for public disclosure" in the Epstein case.
Despite President Trump repeatedly defending Bondi and urging supporters to move past the Epstein case, more voices within his base are calling for her dismissal.
On Saturday, Trump posted on Truth Social that Bondi was doing "a great job." Trump wrote, "We're a team, MAGA. I don't like what's happening now. We have a perfect government, the focus of the world's discussion, but some 'selfish people' want to destroy it, and all of this is because of that guy who won't die - Jeffrey Epstein."
