Philippine Coast Guard has taken new actions, further colluding with the United States. Philippine Daily Inquirer reported today (22nd) that the United States reaffirmed its commitment to the maritime security of the Philippines and handed over equipment worth 1.9 million Philippine pesos to the Philippine Coast Guard.

At the same time, the U.S. government also stated in a statement that the assistance provided by the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) under the U.S. Department of State would help enhance the Philippine Coast Guard's ability to maintain and repair its fleet.

Commander of the Philippine Coast Guard Fleet, Rear Admiral Rommel Supangan said: "This activity is another important measure for our capacity building in providing necessary equipment to the maritime security unit." He pointed out that this aid reflects the strong partnership between the U.S. and the Philippines in promoting maritime security.

The head of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) also expressed the same view and pledged continued support for the Philippines, saying, "INL is committed to continuing to support the operation of its maintenance facilities and fully meet the ship maintenance needs of the Coast Guard fleet. The transfer of this important equipment and backup power will make the equipment maintenance plan more extensive and more effective."
