China Eases Ban, German Manufacturers Allowed to Export Nexperia Chips Again
AFP Frankfurt, 7th - A German automotive parts supplier said today that they have been allowed to resume exporting Nexperia chips from China. German Chancellor Merz called it a "positive signal of easing tensions," which had previously worried major car manufacturers.
Dutch officials took actual control of the chipmaker Nexperia, headquartered in the Netherlands, in September. The company is owned by Chinese company Wenxi Technology.
China responded by banning the re-export of Nexperia chips, triggering warnings from car manufacturers, as these chips are key components for vehicle electronic systems and could cause production disruptions.
However, China recently announced that some chips would be exempt from the export ban. According to reports, this is part of a trade agreement between China and the United States.
Aumovio, a German company supplying sensors and displays to multiple major automakers, said they "have received an export license issued by China, allowing them to export Nexperia chips."
German Chancellor Merz, speaking at a climate meeting in Brazil, stated that Germany and the Netherlands have negotiated with China on this matter.
He said: "There is a positive signal showing that shipments can restart... After talking with the Dutch Prime Minister, I believe this issue will be resolved smoothly."
The Dutch government took over Nexperia on grounds of "national security concerns" and accused the company's CEO of poor management.
China accused the United States of intervening in the case. Last year, the U.S. added Wenxi Technology to a list of companies that "threaten U.S. national security."
