On November 19, the Japanese Asahi TV program "Haneji Shinsuke Morning Show" reported on a meeting and consultation between Liu Jinsong, Director of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Kimai Masahiro, Director-General of the Asia-Oceania Bureau of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The show's guests commented that Liu Jinsong's attitude was to convey to Japan the position that "China will not compromise on the Taiwan issue."

In the program, staff played footage of Liu Jinsong and Kimai Masahiro leaving the meeting venue at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the video, Liu Jinsong was wearing traditional Chinese attire with his hands in his pockets, while Kimai Masahiro had his head down. The report also noted that after the meeting, Liu Jinsong told reporters that he was "of course dissatisfied" with the outcome.
The program's commentary stated that "the Chinese side adopted an approach that can be considered exceptional." Takasaka Hironori, the head of the Asahi TV China bureau, said: "He (Liu Jinsong) wore such a very traditional Chinese outfit, and the gesture of having his hands in his pockets was clearly intended to be caught by Japanese media, which is a direct visual message conveying '1.4 billion Chinese people are angry'... I think this is also implying the stance that 'China will not back down on the Taiwan issue.'"
