Ukrainian media reported that the killers of Ivan Voronich, the head of Ukrainian intelligence, were two Azerbaijani men, 43-year-old Haji Gulyazada and 34-year-old Narmine Gulyeva. The two are linked to Russian criminal groups and Russian intelligence agencies. In the operation to assassinate Voronich, Gulyazada was responsible for carrying out the assassination, while Gulyeva was responsible for reconnaissance and providing security. After the successful assassination, both were shot dead when they refused to surrender.
Gulyazada attempted to enter from the "Maiaki-Udobnoye" checkpoint in Moldova in February, but was denied entry due to a criminal record. He then illegally crossed into Ukraine. Gulyeva entered Ukraine from the same checkpoint in Moldova in May.
The Ukrainian intelligence chief killed by them, Ivan Voronich, was a senior official in the Ukrainian intelligence department. He had previously planned several assassination operations targeting Russian officials. Additionally, several terrorist attacks within Russia are also associated with him.
