Ukraine: Trump is "very dissatisfied" after talking to Putin, may impose new sanctions on Russia
Trump said, "I am very dissatisfied with my conversation with President Putin. 'He wants to go his own way and continue killing, which is wrong'."
Trump said on Friday that he was "very dissatisfied" with his call with Russian President Putin the day before, and said that if there is no progress in ending the war in Ukraine, new sanctions on Russia may be imposed.
The US president told reporters on Air Force One, "This is a very difficult situation. I have told you, I am very dissatisfied with my conversation with President Putin. He wants to go his own way and continue killing, which is wrong."
When talking about his conversation with Putin, Trump said, "We talked a lot about sanction issues. He understands (the) possibility of new sanctions."
AFP said that the Kremlin believes it is currently "impossible" to "achieve" Russia's goals in Ukraine through diplomatic means, meaning that facing Ukraine's difficulties on the front lines, the Russian forces will continue to occupy Ukrainian territory.
Calling Zelenskyy
Trump also said that he had a "very strategic" call with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy on Friday. AFP said that Kyiv is increasingly concerned about the US slowing down military aid.
Zelenskyy said that he and Trump agreed to work together to "strengthen" Ukraine's air defense capabilities. Ukraine suffered its largest drone and missile attack since Russia's invasion in 2022 on Friday.
German Chancellor
Trump said that on Friday, during a separate call with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, he also discussed the issue of sending Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, although he has not yet decided whether to provide these key equipment.
Trump said about Ukraine, "Mr. Merz thinks they need protection."
