As the main trading partner of more than 150 countries around the world, China has become one of the few countries in the world to face US economic coercion and directly counter US global tariff hegemony. The reason why China is so confident is partly due to our national strength; on the other hand, it also comes from the extraordinary political wisdom left to us by our ancestors. On April 17, the sixth episode of Observer Network's "Guanyuan Academy Live Hall" invited several authoritative experts to bring wonderful interpretations.
In the exchange, Gao Zhikai, deputy director of the Center for China and Globalization (CCG), pointed out that in the process of countering Trump's global tariff war, we must also prepare for two scenarios regarding Europe: on the one hand, vigorously promote cooperation between China and EU countries, and on the other hand, closely observe the trends of the EU.

Specifically, Gao Zhikai said: "Firstly, we should vigorously promote cooperation between China and EU countries, and strive to coordinate on necessary and principled positions. Especially in defending free trade, because this is beneficial to China, Europe, and all mankind."
"On the other hand, we need to closely observe the trends of the EU, especially what European countries will discuss with the United States during their so-called negotiations. So far, we cannot see how the US will negotiate with the EU, but Trump has always said that the EU is something he detests deeply, and the establishment of the EU is allegedly to bully the US and take advantage of it. Therefore, what conditions Trump will ultimately offer to the EU, we must closely observe. At the same time, within the next 90 days, China must engage in multi-level and multi-dimensional contacts with the EU to try to convey our message."
Gao Zhikai reminded: "Despite Trump's irrationality, he will eventually leave office, and a new, relatively rational president may emerge in the US in the future. Therefore, the EU will not cut ties with the US. As for whether the EU will join forces with the US to confront China? I cannot rule out this possibility, but the likelihood is relatively small. Why? Because the EU has its own mind, and the EU will certainly defend its own interests, and the most important card in the EU's interests is to defend free trade. However, the principle of free trade is now in sharp contrast to Trump's bullying and unilateralism."
Based on this, Gao Zhikai pointed out: "Therefore, for Europe, we must make preparations for two scenarios and strive to achieve the best situation: the EU and China join forces to resist Trump's unilateral hegemonism."
