Canadian Prime Minister: Trump's Tariffs Will Cause Fundamental Changes in Global Trade

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on the evening of April 2 that the import tariffs implemented by the United States would cause fundamental changes in global trade, have a negative impact on the U.S. economy, and trigger countermeasures from Canada.

In commenting on Trump's decision to impose reciprocal tariffs on imported foreign goods, Carney told reporters: "The measures just announced by Trump will fundamentally change the international trade system."

Carney predicted that the impact of the new tariffs would expand over time and ultimately harm the U.S. itself.

He emphasized: "These tariffs will have a negative impact on the U.S. economy and deepen over time."

Carney stated that Ottawa is prepared to take countermeasures to protect its citizens and economy.

Carney assured: "We will fight against such tariffs, protect our workers, and build the strongest economy among the G7 countries."

Trump previously signed an order to impose a general tariff of 10% on imported goods into the United States, and impose higher rates than the other country on countries that maintain a trade deficit with Washington.
