Department of Defense: Approved Sale of Land-Attack Missile System Worth About $620 Million to Bulgaria

The Department of Defense announced that the U.S. State Department has approved the sale of the "Naval Strike Missile" (NSM) anti-ship missile system and related equipment worth about $620 million to the Bulgarian government.

The Department of Defense statement said: "The Bulgarian government requested the procurement of the Naval Strike Missile coastal defense system (NSM-CDS), including 3 sets of Link-16 multifunctional information distribution systems, with an estimated total value of $620 million."

The Department of Defense also stated that it plans to sell ancillary equipment, including communication systems, training missiles, mobile command posts, launchers, as well as supporting logistics support and training.

The Department of Defense disclosed that Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace of Norway will be the prime contractor for the contract, and the final value of the contract may be less than the assessed value of $620 million, which will be finally determined after studying Bulgaria's needs and its financial capacity.
