British oil giant Shell is preparing to start investing in Venezuela's oil industry

British oil and gas company Shell told Sputnik News that it is ready to start investing in Venezuela's oil industry.

Previously, US President Donald Trump had warned US oil companies that the investment scale in Venezuela would be at least 10 billion dollars. Trump emphasized that the US is ready to process and sell oil from Venezuela. He also pointed out that the heavy crude oil produced by this Latin American country is suitable for road construction.

Shell told the news agency: "We are ready and look forward to starting (investment in Venezuela)."

The company emphasized that Shell currently has the capability to invest billions of dollars, but the relevant investments still require approval from the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Treasury Department.

Shell exited Venezuela between 1975 and 1976, when the country's government nationalized the oil industry.
