Local time on June 13, the governments of Australia and New Zealand issued a statement strongly condemning Israel's military actions against Iran.
According to reports by the Associated Press, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said she was "deeply shocked" by the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, warning that such tensions could further undermine the already fragile stability in the Middle East.
New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon characterized the attack as a "significant security concern," emphasizing that it could lead to "catastrophic consequences" in the Middle East. He particularly noted: "Under the current circumstances, any miscalculation may bring risks that are difficult to estimate."
It is worth noting that just two days before this incident, on June 11, Australia and New Zealand jointly imposed punitive measures including travel bans and financial sanctions on two right-wing ministers of the Israeli government, accusing them of "inciting extreme violence against Palestinian civilians" in the occupied territories of the West Bank.
In other reports, on the same day, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued a statement through his spokesperson regarding Israel's strike on Iran.
In the statement, Guterres condemned any form of military escalation in the Middle East. He expressed particular concern over Israel's attack on Iranian nuclear facilities during the negotiations between Iran and the United States over Iran's nuclear program.
Guterres reiterated that UN member states have an obligation to act in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and international law. He called for both sides to exercise maximum restraint and avoid further escalation of the situation at all costs, as the region can no longer bear deeper turmoil.
