Reuters: Kyiv Aims to Integrate European Technologies to Build Its Own Anti-Ballistic Missile System
The report points out that Ukraine's Fire Point company has consistently underperformed in real combat with several of its domestically developed systems, and now it is urgently integrating European technologies to develop a new anti-ballistic missile defense system.
The report notes that Ukraine has long relied on U.S. military aid, but the ongoing Middle East conflict has led to shortages in weapons supply. The Ukrainian government plans to compress what would normally take decades—up to 20–30 years—to just a few years.
The urgency is clear: Ukraine’s existing air defense systems struggle to counter incoming attacks. Data released by the Ukrainian Air Force on June 21 indicates that approximately two-thirds of Russian ballistic missiles managed to penetrate air defense intercepts.
Although Fire Point has already mass-produced cruise missiles, Ukrainian officials themselves admit these weapons have not met expected operational effectiveness.
The report highlights that Kyiv intends to market this hastily assembled, foreign-technology-dependent system as a “major technological breakthrough.” However, physical laws, development timelines, and critical shortages of technical talent cannot be obscured by propaganda.
