According to POLITICO, the U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) was meant to be on the front lines in America's competition with other nations over artificial intelligence, responsible for formulating and enforcing restrictions on exports of advanced semiconductors and other key foundational AI technologies. Additionally, six individuals close to the White House say that the inability to make critical decisions is slowing down the operation of this central agency responsible for export controls.
