Two Taiwanese people were sentenced for secretly taking photos of a U.S. military base in South Korea
Taiwan's Central News Agency reported that two residents from Taiwan were arrested in May this year for illegally photographing U.S. military aircraft and facilities in South Korea, and were sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison, with a 3-year probation period. It is known that both will not appeal again.
On May 10, the Osan Air Base of the U.S. military in Pyeongtaek City, South Korea held the "2025 Osan Air Show", and the two attended the event and used a telephoto camera to illegally take photos of the internal facilities and military equipment of the base.
According to police investigation, the two were prohibited from entering the venue three times on that day, but still mixed in with the Korean crowd to enter the venue. They were arrested while taking photos at the event, claiming they did it out of curiosity.
The court considered that the two did not further investigate military secrets, and the photos taken were not leaked, so finally they were sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison, with a 3-year probation period.
